Honoring Our Past. Funding the Future.
In 2011, the Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance (MIOCA) was founded after a family affected by ovarian cancer recognized a critical need for greater awareness, support, and research for this disease across Michigan. Even with their shared backgrounds in nursing, co-founders Pam Dahlmann and her mother, Geri Fournier, did not recognize the symptoms of ovarian cancer before Geri's diagnosis—a reality that highlighted how many others might be facing the same challenges. Fifteen years ago, what began as a personal experience became a statewide mission to ensure that no one faces ovarian cancer alone.
Today, MIOCA continues that mission by providing educational resources, awareness initiatives, local and federal advocacy, critical research funding, and support for survivors and their loved ones. Thanks to the generosity of donors, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters, the organization has made a lasting impact over the past 15 years, including awarding $900,000 in research grants through the Geri Fournier Ovarian Cancer Research Grant Program.
As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we are working toward an ambitious goal: reaching $1 million in total research funding by the end of 2026. These investments will help accelerate breakthroughs in prevention, detection, and treatment.
To help us continue this important work, a generous donor has pledged to match all gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. That means every donation made now through July 31st will have twice the impact—helping fund critical research, expand support services, and bring hope to ovarian cancer survivors and their loved ones across Michigan.
